Delve into the history of Venice Beach and Santa Monica during a 3-hour bike ride. We meander through the chic streets of Abbot Kinney, marveling at the homes in Venice Beach. We then ride along Venice Beach to our final destination in Santa Monica. Spend a half-day beside the sea and take in the Californian way of life.
Step 1 > Abbot Kinney, or the chicest street in Venice Beach
Quite a low-key area only just a few years ago, Abbot Kinney is today nicknamed « America’s coolest block ». It is lined with chic boutiques and concept stores. Google and Snapchat have set up their offices nearby and raised the price per square meter.
Step 2 > The Venice Beach Canals
Abbot Kinney who started Venice Beach in 1905 had fallen in love with Venice and wanted to replicate the romanticism of the Italian city to California. Of course, there are the canals for added authenticity. The architecture of the houses, however, is quite different from what you’ll see the Italian peninsula way – you’ll find Californian bungalows as well as contemporary houses made out of glass or extravagant mini-castles.
Step 3 > Venice Beach
There’s never a dull moment on Venice Beach. There are the bodybuilders training at Muscle Beach, surfers looking the catch a wave and skaters who spend hours on the most famous skatepark in California. A fun atmosphere is guaranteed!
Step 4 > From Venice Beach to Santa Monica
Santa Monica, a coastal town that has been famous for decades due to its perfect location and climate, continues to attract tourists and locals alike. With its white sandy beaches and its legendary amusement park, the little shopping streets are brimming with the charm of a seaside resort.
